Kentucky Breeders Incentive

In an effort to be proactive and provide mare owners with the knowledge of our diligence to ensure the safety of their mares all of the stallions standing at Gumz Farms Quarter Horses have been tested for CEM and have ALL tested Negative. They have also tested negative for EVA and are vaccinated and have current negative Coggins tests.

Due to the recent CEM outbreak in the US, the Canadian government has implemented the need for an import permit and a health certificate for each shipment of semen being shipped from the United States to Canada.   Once the semen is collected the attending veterinarian must prepare a health certificate, obtain USDA approval and then forward the shipment to Canada.  Gumz Farms has the ability to access a USDA Veterinarian on call each collection day.  In order to send the semen out the same day it is collected the stallion owner will need to take the container of semen and the health certificate to the USDA for endorsement, though the closest USDA Veterinary Service Center. Upon arrival in Canada the shipment must be inspected (container is not to be opened but the paperwork verified) by an official of the Canadian government.  A shipment of cooled semen could be delayed resulting in its arrival after the mare ovulates or past the length of time the cooled semen would be viable for insemination.

Although the paperwork and timing to ship frozen semen to Canada are the same as for cooled semen the frozen semen can be shipped to a mare owner days, weeks or months ahead of time and be available when the mare is ready to be bred.  This is a viable alternative to cooled semen.  Nearly all stallions at Gumz Farms have frozen semen available.  Please see the individual stallion website for frozen semen availability.
